The time-mean circulation observed by satellite altimeters (surface field) and the mooring array (latitude-depth cut) during the KESS experiment 2004-2006. A mean recirculation gyre is observed in the surface field to the south of the jet. In the abyssal ocean, deep time-mean westward flows flanking the surface-intensified jet are observed both to the north and south.
